Blossom Time in the Lakes
After a long cold winter it’s now blossom time in the Lakes. The cherry blossom is on its way.
Many gardens in the Lakes have cherry blossom in them right now, looking beautiful. It’s a sign that winter is behind us and spring and summer are on their way. As the days get longer visitors to the Lakes have more time to enjoy the delights of the spring trees and flowers.
A great place to view a huge display of cherry blossom is at Sizergh Castle, owned by the National Trust and a great day out. Here’s the link to their website.
As you approach Brockstone Grasmere Cottage in late April and May, you can delight in the blackthorn blossom along the way.
Here a picture of a glorious Hawthorne tree on the lovely walk from Ambleside to Troutbeck via Jenkin’s Crag.
More spring flowers at Blossom Time.

Well, 2018 has been a cold spring so you will still see daffodils. Here is a photo of daffodils at Brockstone Grasmere Cottage.

The primroses have just begun to peep through. I spotted my first Lakes April primroses of the year this week.
Here’s an article about primroses written in a previous year. 2018 has had a slow start for spring flowers, but there will be a burst of them soon.
The bluebells are in bud, and lots of other wildflowers are to be seen at this time of year in the lakes.
The Lake District is beautiful at any time of the year, but I do love Blossom Time. You can read more about Lake District flowers here.
