Goodbye to our long stay guests

We have just said goodbye to our lovely Canadian guests who rented Brockstone Grasmere cottage for four weeks. They had stayed in 2014, and enjoyed it so much that they came back in May 2015.

Having not used their hire car much last year, they decided to see if they could stay for four weeks without a car. We picked them up from Grasmere on check in day, where they arrived by bus, and took them , their bags and their shopping up to Brockstone, After that they refused all lifts and never hired a car! This is the second time that guests have stayed for four weeks with no car, the last time being in January 2014 when an enterprising, very independent lady from the USA stayed on her own for four weeks, reading, writing and playing music.

As someone who tends to take everything including the kitchen sink when I go away, I’m full of admiration for these guests. It’s true that the washing machine was important ( it has a dryer too) as this cuts down on the number of clothes needed, but still- impressive!

We do still have some weeks available this summer. The week 25 July to 1 August is £890.

We have a 6 night special from Sunday 22 August to Saturday 29 August for just £690.

We have just reduced the last week of the school holidays, 29 August to 5 September from £890 to £790.

One of our recent guests was a photographer and birdwatcher. She has given us permission to use this wonderful photo of a buzzard that was circling over Brockstone Cottage.

Here’s a lovely photo of Brockstone Grasmere Cottage taken by the guests who come every year for the Whit Week, late May. It’s taken from the path on the way to White Moss viewpoint, one of the many wonderful short walks from the cottage door.

So, come and stay , and why not stay longer than a week? Ask us about special deals for longer stays. Brockstone Grasmere, and very special Lakes Cottage with amazing views.

We’ve reduced the Easter Holiday week 28 March

The Easter holiday week beginning 28 March leaving 4 April has been reduced from £790 to £690.

This is surely a great bargain for a school holiday week? We think so!

Another very happy guest at our Grasmere Cottage

Another very happy guest has just stayed at our Grasmere Cottage. Wanting a stay in the Lakes where she could take great photos and enjoy birdwatching, our guest decided Brockstone, our Grasmere Cottage, was the perfect place.

The weather this week has been outstanding, and the sunsets have been spectacular, so there has been the opportunity to take some wonderful photos. Maybe I’ll be able to post one here later.

As to birdwatching- well a red squirrel doesn’t exactly fit the description, but it was a thrilling sight nevertheless.

On leaving, we were given a thank you note and a box of chocolates! How lovely!

We do still have our Grasmere cottage available over the Easter period. Easter in the Lakes is something special, with the promise of spring, daffodils, lambs, longer days, sunshine hopefully. It’s a very popular time for hiking. We’d love to welcome you.

Reservations are coming in thick and fast

It may be grey , wet and cold outside, but people still want to stay at Brockstone Cottage, on the edge of Grasmere Village, overlooking Rydal Water. The last three guests who have stayed there in December and January, have … Continue reading

Looking forward to a great 2015 at Brockstone Cottage Grasmere

Here we are in the first week of 2015, and already we have lots of bookings for our Grasmere holiday cottage. We call it a “Grasmere holiday cottage”, as it is actually located in the Parish of Grasmere, but the lake that you can see from Brockstone Grasmere Cottage is, in fact, Rydal Water. The view of Brockstone in the page header is taken looking across Rydal Water. The cottage is ideally located at the centre of the most popular walking area in the Lake District, yet it is peaceful and away from the crowded village centre.

Grasmere lake is a 10 minute walk away, and a circular walk from Brockstone to Grasmere Village and back round the newly remade Grasmere lake shore path can take anything between 1 hour ( if you’re a fast walker or jogger) to 3 or 4 hours. Actually, your wanderings ( lonely as a cloud- to use the well worn Wordsworth phrase) could take even longer if you stop off in Grasmere Village to see the sights,do some shopping, have a coffee , snack or meal. If you call into a pub for a pint ( Tweedies is our favourite) who knows how long you might stay?

I’ve written an article on “10 Things to do in Grasmere” which you can find by clicking through this link.

2014 was a very busy year in Brockstone, and we’re happy to say that Brockstone Grasmere cottage received many excellent reviews. You can find more about our reviews here. We’re now taking bookings for 2015. We’re looking forward to a great 2015, and hope to see you.

We’ve taken a booking for September 2015!

How far ahead do you plan your holidays? Are you a last minute sort of person, or do you like to fill your diary a year ahead? I tend to do both, but I must admit to booking my favourite self catering accommodation way ahead of time. In fact, I ask the owner to pencil us in for the following year as I leave.

Some of our guests at Brockstone cottage Grasmere, do exactly the same. If you want to stay somewhere as unique as Brockstone, you do need to plan ahead.

We already have bookings as far ahead as September 2015. If you are flexible about dates, there’s not a problem, but if you want to fix your dates around a birthday or an anniversary , or school holidays, don’t leave it too long.

If you want to come in August 2015, we are offering a special rate for a two week slot from 8 August to 22 August (or you could make that 9 to 23 August) The rate for an August week is £890, but if you stay for these two weeks, we are offering a special rate of £1,650 for a family of 4, for two weeks. penny-rock-woods-grasmere-white-moss-walkHere’s a reminder of one of the lovely walks that you can do from Brockstone cottage. This is Grasmere from Loughrigg Terrace. More details of this walk can be found here.

We are fully booked for Christmas and New Year

Yes, Christmas is already booked, and New Year is too. I hope I don’t sound too tetchy, but I keep getting emails from people asking if they can book. Sorry, but we are fully booked for Christmas and New Year 2014- 2015.

Please check the “availability” pages first! Both Holiday Lettings and HomeAway have a feature where you can input the dates that you want to stay, and they only show you what’s available. This would save you a lot of time if you are searching for a definite date.

We would love to welcome you to our Grasmere Cottage whenever we can. Here’s a link to our booking calendar, which we do update on a regular basis.

From the 1 November until the 20th December, we are offering a week’s stay for £490. These rates are also available in January to help banish the New Year blues. This includes all central heating and bills, beds made ready for you with 100% fine cotton sheets , big fluffy towels……. There is a log fire laid for you to light on arrival. Brockstone Cottage is so cosy in the winter months . Many of our guests love the fact that they can get out in the fresh air, straight onto the pistes (to coin a ski term – footpaths in the Lakes). make the most of the day, then relax with a spa bath at the end of the day before chilling out by the fire with the stereo on loud.

We’re flexible about changeover days in winter, and we also welcome short breaks. We’d love to hear from you if you have any questions, or if you’d like a quote.
