We have been told that July will be warm! It’s a great time to visit the Lakes, with shows, sporting events and music festivals . The Lake District Summer Music Festival is excellent.

Currently, we the weeks we still have available are

We have some great summer special offers.

Between 22 June 2024 and 13 July 2024 we have three weeks available, and we now have reduced the rate by 10%.

The weeks 22 June-29 June, and 29 June -6 July were £995. We’ve reduced that to £895.

The week 6 July -13 July 2024 was £1125, and we’ve reduced it to £1015.

After a pretty mild winter there are already signs of spring in the Lake District. The daffodils are out, the days are getting longer, and it’s still fairly quiet in the National Park . 

It’s a great time to refresh yourselves with a break to enjoy great walks from the door, fabulous views and a comfortable cosy cottage to come home to.

Winter weeks in the Lake District offer you beautiful scenery, wonderful walks, and a break from your everyday life. Winter weeks at Brockstone Grasmere Cottage for the winter 2023- 2024 are great value at £695 per week ( Saturday changeover)

We’ve written in the past about the joy of winter weeks in the Lake District. Here’s a link to our previous article. Read it to see more photos, and to get links to the wonderful theatres and cinemas that we have locally.

I’m writing this in the early days of November, 2023, when the weather has been wonderful. We live about half a mile from Brockstone Grasmere Cottage, and we share the same walks as our cottage guests.

The other day, we were walking in the late afternoon when we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

All these photos are taken from Loughrigg Terrace, one of the many walks from the door of Brockstone Gramere Cottage. These White Moss Walks are described here.

A couple of days after the photos above were taken, we were walking at mid day. The forecast was for sunshine, no rain. However- it rained – a little drizzly rain. The bonus was the most amazing rainbow.

Then the rainbow became brighter than ever

Finally, the rainbow moved to loop over Brockstone Grasmere Cottage, seen perched on the fell in the middle of the photo.

In a few weeks the leaves will have gone. Although the leaves are lovely, it’s great to have the different views you see when the deciduous trees are bare. There are many lovely evergreen trees still looking amazing.

Update – Christmas and New Year now booked  Low season winter weeks are available at the rate of £695

Christmas and New Year 2023 in the Lake District – a time for a break from busy towns and cities for the countryside, walks, and fresh air!

This year we have a very flexible plan available. You can arrive and leave on a day that suits you. The only requirement is that your stay is a minimum of 7 nights.

A 7 night stay will be at the rate of £1,075. If you would like to stay for longer, each extra night will be only £120. This means that (for example) if you wanted to stay 10 nights the rate would be £1,435. Our rates, as usual , are for up to 4 guests. One dog is allowed at no extra cost.  subject to our Ts & Cs .

The walk from Brockstone Cottage door round Rydal Water was featured in the Times as one of the best winter walks in the UK!  You can read about White Moss  walks from the door here. (Brockstone Cottage is in the area known as White Moss)

Best Winter Walks

We can’t predict the weather for Christmas and New Year ! In fact, you can’t predict the weather in the Lakes from day to day, sometimes hour to hour. The BBC weather forecast is unreliable for the Lakes. One of the  best forecasts if you’re planning winter walks is The Mountain Weather Information Service.

Come prepared for anything! Whatever the weather, you’ll come back to a warm, cosy cottage. Light the woodburning stove if you want an extra rosy glow!

Comments about this property Brockstone was a most fabulous place to stay. We were lucky with the weather which meant we were blessed to enjoy the amazing views from the patio. Such a private place to stay but it doesn’t feel isolated due to the walks from the door and Grasmere being so close. I would definitely recommend it, the cottage is very sweet, clean and has almost everything you need. We do hope to go back next year.

Tips for other travellers The walks from the door are amazing. We didn’t use our car from arriving, till leaving. Alcock tarn was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, so tranquil, well worth the climb. Rydal is also beautiful and the Badger pub serves great food. Grasmere is now my best place the lakes has to offer Brockstone in Autumn from White Moss viewpoint

Our October last minute offers are always very popular. If you think you would like to be here on one of the fabulous walks from the door, book soon.!

After a day in the fresh air and beautiful scenery of the Lakes you can either spend a cosy evening in by the log fire, or venture out to the wonderful Theatre by the Lake at Keswick or pop out to the amazing Zeffirellis and Fellinis   in Ambleside for movies, music, live screenings and great food.

Maybe treat yourselves to a Michelin Starred meal out, or enjoy one of the many other great restaurants and cafes in the area. Our current favourite restaurants are Kysty in Ambleside,  and The Jumble Room and The Yan in Grasmere.

For pubs with good food we suggest Tweedies in Grasmere and the Badger Bar in Rydal.  Both are family run, and offer great beers and good home cooked food.
