SPRING IN THE LAKE DISTRICT
Spring in the Lake District– that’s something to look forward to in the depths of winter. A time of snowdrops and daffodils after the darkness of winter.
Here is a photo I took on the terrace of Brockstone Grasmere Cottage in January. Makes you feel good doesn’t it? Out in the fresh air enjoying the views, the walking, and the wonderful atmosphere of the Lake District , UNESCO World Heritage site..
Easter is a very popular time to visit the Lake District. Tear here about Easter in the Lake District. The two Easter school holiday weeks are already booked on 2020, but we do have still weeks available at the end of March and a couple of weeks at the end of April.
Spring in the Lake District is snowdrop time.
The first flowers of spring are the snowdrops.
Snowdrops usually appear in the Lake District in February. These pretty little flowers are a sign that Spring is on the way. Snowdrops are not flashy like daffodils. They hide away by hedges. However, the flashes of white and green are so welcome after winter. Well worth looking out for!
Spring in the Lake District is Daffodil time
The Lake District is famous for daffodils. William Wordsworth lived just a few minutes along the lane from Brockstone Grasmere Cottage when he wrote the world’s most famous poem, Daffodils, often known by its first line “I wandered lonely as a cloud”. To find out more about this poem, click through to an article I wrote on Wordsworth’s Daffodils and what lies behind the poem.
If you stay at Brockstone Grasmere Cottage in early spring, this will be your private daffodil garden.
